Swedish/ Relaxation
Massage
Usually considered to be
"traditional" massage, Swedish Massage addresses the top layers of skin and
muscle with long gliding and reassuring strokes, percussive techniques and
various modes of rubbing and shaking. Vibrating essential organs and glands,
Swedish Massage uses oils, typically lasts an hour or longer, yielding an
overall relaxation and feeling of well-being involving the entire body.
Attention to the skin affects all areas of the body, and Swedish Massage
reduces muscle tension, anxiety, and enhances the immune system, among other
effects. |
Myofascial
Release
A thin tissue called fascia
surrounds all of our internal organs and muscles. Myofascial Release works by
massage of this fascia. Because it is body-wide, a tension or trauma in one
part of the body can be addressed by a Therapist's touch on this
fascia.. |
Energy/Deep
Tissue
Inner portions of thick muscles
are reached through deep tissue massage, specifically addressing the individual
muscle fibers. Through compression and friction along the grain of the muscle,
Deep Tissue Massage frees the fibers of the muscles, excising toxins and deeply
rooted tensions. |
Connective
tissue
Gentle massage of connective
tissue, or Naprapathy, restores the body's optimal flow of energy. Naprapathy,
with holistic elements, regards nutrition, movement, life-style and diet for
full effectiveness. The ligaments surrounding the spinal column receive
particular attention. |
Clinical Sports
Massage
Relief of fatigue can be
important to any athlete. Clinical Sports Massage targets specific muscle
groups used most frequently by the athlete, optimizing performance, enabling
flexibility, and diminishing injury. The best techniques from several other
modalities are usually combined into the Sports modality, tailor made for the
individual athlete's requirements. |
Craniosacral
therapy
Perhaps owing to our origins in
earth's oceans, our cerebrospinal fluid moves throughout our spinal column and
cranial areas in a tide-like manner. By releasing restrictions on the movement
of the fluid, harmony in the central nervous system can be balanced. Almost 100
years old, this sophisticated technique can help those persons afflicted with
any of a number of seemingly chronic aliments, including attention deficit
disorders and insomnia.

Trigger Point
Therapy
Myotherapy, or trigger point
massage, relaxes muscle spasms, benefitting circulation and reducing pain.
Eliminating "trigger points," hard knots of muscle tension causes other areas
under fire to relax and resume natural function. Unfelt in the muscle until it
is touched, the trigger point knot can be gently or firmly diminished until it
releases, relaxing the affected muscle and easing any associated
spasms. |
Reflexology
Acupressure on the hands
and feet is referred to as Reflexology. Each zone of the body, such as lungs,
stomach and others correspond to unique points in the muscles of the hands and
feet. Manipulation of the extremities yields beneficial results to the rest of
the body. When mankind went barefoot and worked at manual labor, massage of
these points occurred naturally. With our "improved" information society, flat
walkways and heavy shoes, we lose the natural benefits of movement. A terrific
session of reflexive therapy can improve our overall sense of well being, and
restore natural healing to our entire body. |
Pressure Point
Therapy
Acupressure, originating in the
ancient Orient, is a system of treatment that addresses the junctions of
muscles, and eliminates the knots and resistance points in the body. One
pressure point can reflect through several body parts, causing an immediate
sensation of release and relief. It is particularly useful in recovering a
muscle from a tension knot, when it has "fired" so long it simply locks in
place. When a muscle group locks up, it becomes the problem. A healing hand
releases the knot, and the muscle can regroup for proper function.

Neuromuscular
This type of massage
centers on giving attention to the muscular system until it releases the body's
own endorphins, easing acute and chronic pain with a program of treatment. It
is deep and intense, and leaves the muscular structure drained of negative
energy, allowing the body to recuperate naturally. Old pathways are rearranged,
and the muscles are retrained for healthier function. |

Persons with debilitating medical
conditions should discuss their use of massage therapy with their primary care
physician before starting a program of therapeutic massage. It is very
important to hold a continuous dialog with your massage therapist to avoid any
untoward complications. We respect our clients' medical and treatment confidentiality.
